Credentials & Experience
I began my midwifery career in 1984 as an apprentice serving Amish families. In order to further my training, I worked at a free standing birth center in Texas. The majority of my midwifery knowledge was gained through years of experience attending women at home.
I have attended the births of twins, breech babies, VBAC births; even after multiple cesareans. I encourage women to birth freely, including water birth or squatting.
The current rate of cesearn section for women I assist is 3.5%, as compared with the national average of 33%. Women are much more likely to achieve a VBAC at home, rather than in a hospital setting.
I became a Certified Professional Midwife in 1996 as a way to affirm my competence, training and education. I am one of the only CPMs in Northeast Ohio. As such, I am required to recertify every three years by taking part in conferences, workshops and peer review. My commitment to homebirth and the midwifery model of care is exemplified in my CPM status.
As a CPM I am trained in natural childbirth at home, neonatal resuscitation, and immediate postpartum care. I offer individualized attention specific to each woman and her childbearing needs. Home birth services are an alternative to standard hospital deliveries. It is the responsibility of the parents to choose a care provider that best suits their needs for childbirth. You are encouraged to consider all the options avaiable to you.
